More to come.

It’s been nearly six years since I’ve done this trip, and I forgot how mentally winded a full day of travel can make you.

Less crypticity (it’s a word, it’s totally a word) tomorrow after I’ve slept.

And…..

We’re off!

More to come upon arrival. Stay tuned.

Day 1 run

Check!

Push ups and pull-ups, too.

It all felt a little too easy, which I forget is how it’s supposed to feel at the beginning. That’s how you ease into things. I am not the easing into things type (if you don’t already know me). But it’s a good reminder that slow and steady (and consistent) just might be the way to go. Because – well – my other methods haven’t exactly rendered tell-worthy results as of yet.

Tomorrow I set off to see my Momma and littlest sister. It’s been a solid 6 years since I’ve mad this trip, so I’m pretty excited to be heading back home. It doesn’t hurt that I’ll be greeted with warm, sunny days!

To pace or not to pace!

At last check, I was at 8,866 steps. And I’m about ready to call it a night. So what’s a girl to do? Call it quits and bail on one of my goals so early in the game? Or pace my room until I reach those glorious five digits?

That’s the thing, though. Not just with steps, but with all goals. There comes a point where you can let it slide for today. Or the week. Or maybe even the month. Hell, some goals slide for years. But to what end? And what’s the point? It’s a goal for a reason, right? Because it’s going to take some effort, some sacrifice, and some dedication. Because it isn’t always going to come naturally, or fit into the time schedule, or be what we want to do at the time. But the thing about goals is that they’re bigger than right now. Not just working on them, but also enjoying your achievements. That awesome feeling of having reached something can last a while!

So – as I prep my floor for what will soon go into my suitcase, I am faced with a few decisions. Do I pack my journal, or wait to start when I get home? Do I pack my jump rope and running shoes to replace my planned runs, or wait to start that when I get home, too? How will I handle the 6 days off the grid? What will I do about my headspace streak? I’m so close to reaching 180!

Here’s the thing. I’m currently pacing in circles in my bedroom as I type, because I will NOT give up today. And I will start my journal once my dizziness passes, because I’ll figure out a way to keep it up. And I will stick to my run schedule as best I can. And if some get missed, it happens. But I will not give up before then, in anticipation of something being difficult.

Update: after pacing the house line a lunatic, I’m pleased to report 10,115 steps.

Not quite a resolution

You know how it is. “New year, new me!” – it’s almost impossible to escape the urge to set off on some big goals with some big dreams. And why not? After all, we get a brand new calendar to fill!

So why not?

I’ve never been much for resolutions – I just don’t have the patience. But, I am much for big changes and new projects! After a very bouncy 2015, filled with tons of changes and adjustments, I’m looking to create more space in 2016. You know, take some yoga breaths instead of breathing like a hyperventilating hamster.

So here are a few, and the tools I’ll be using to help me along the way:
(I understand that some are frivolous, but hey – it’s my 2016!)

Long-Term:
365 Days of Blogging – App: Productive
365 Days of Meditation – App: Headspace
365 Days of Yoga – Book: Joy of Yoga
Daily Gratitude – Best SELF Journal
Better budgeting – App: YNAB
10,000 Steps Daily – FitBit

Shorter Term:
Train for a 10k – App: 10K
Complete 10 chin-ups – App: Runtastic: PullUps
Complete 25 push-ups – App: Runtastic: PushUps

Clearly, it’s going to be a busy year. And I’m likely going to drop the ball at some point, but that’s hardly worth worrying about. The idea is to just take it one day at a time.

Rock on, 2016!

There’s a mouse (mice) in the house (hice?)!

My grandmother found evidence of a mouse in her house. This was my clearly appropriate response:

There once was a mouse
Who borrowed a house
As the weather grew cold by the day.

Though the floor boards did squeak
He dared not make a peep
As he looked for a nice place to stay.

The room, it was green!
Perfectly fit for a queen,
‘How lovely’ his young bride would say.

Sure the chair had a hole,
But the slippers – fuzzy soles!
A winter here would be perfectly okay.

As he scuttled about,
He decided, no doubt,
They would move in the very next day.

Upon their return,
Dinner became no concern
When she saw the bed, and squeaked ‘Horray!’

These people, oh how kind
For they had left to find
Chocolate cookies laid out on a tray.

So a picnic they had,
On a blanket not quite plaid
It was just like their sweet wedding day.

They ate until stuffed,
My oh my, they were chuffed,
All their worries, now munched away.

With tummies all fed,
It was clearly time for bed
Time to find a warm place to lay

Out of sight, out of mind
They would easily find
A cozy place, so he knelt to pray

Thank you for the biscuits,
Finally – no more Triscuits!
Here’s to tomorrow, another wonderful day!
